Because no artistic training or performances have been possible since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sangam has decided to develop a small-scale sustainable farm situated on its 7-acre campus to raise funds to realize the organization’s activities.
If you are genuinely interested in sustainable farming, have the prerequisite know-how, are not afraid to work with your hands, and are willing to invest high energy in taking our farm project to a level where its income can help sustain your salary and our organization, we would like to hear from you. This is a position that will allow you to grow, show initiative and take on greater responsibilities.
Place of work: Kattaikkuttu Sangam, Punjarasantankal Village (8 km outside Kanchipuram Town); staying on campus would be preferred, but is not essential
Hours of Work: 6 days/week – 8 hours per day with working timings depending on the work
Remuneration: Rs. 15.000-20.000 depending on know-how, experience and proven marketing skills

Responsibilities
The Farm Manager will lead a team of 2-4 local farm hands, supplemented by additional daily agricultural labor as and when needed. In addition to monitoring the day-to-day agricultural work on site and reporting about the work done to the senior management, the position will involve the following tasks:
Analyze existing operations, crops, livestock, staff, financial documents and recommend improvements
Ensure that sustainable agricultural practices are followed in all activities of the farm; these include, but are not limited to, organic composting, preparation of organic pesticides & heirloom/non-hybrid seed use and seed saving
Prepare annual and monthly plans and schedules for planting and harvesting
Ensure that staff understands the demand and expectations of the work & adheres to health and safety regulations
Handle marketing and sale of products produced at the farm, like fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat and grain
Collaborate with senior staff to prepare farm budgets and financial reports & maintain stock registers of produce, sales and seeds for donor reporting
Build professional networks and keep abreast of developments in farming practices
Guide and involve visitors, staying guests and (international) volunteers in farm work so that it becomes a part of their experience at the Kattaikkuttu Sangam
Ensure that crops and pre- and post-harvest processes will comply with international certification standards, it the Sangam would decide to initiate such a certification process.
Profile of the ideal candidate
Excellent practical knowledge of and passion for organic farming and its methods, which might be a basic degree in Agriculture or Diploma in Organic Farming and/or extensive experience in similar farming related work (especially small and medium sized farms)
Knowledge of and proven success in marketing organic produce
Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to make intelligent decisions in challenging situations
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness to work beyond overtime as required
Language skills: Written and spoken Tamil; fluency in English is a great asset
Computer skills: Word, Excel, email; social media skills are an asset
